MeshWave Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 1, 2026
Effective Date: March 1, 2026
MeshWave ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how MeshWave collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the MeshWave mobile application ("the App").
1. Information We Collect
Device Location (GPS): MeshWave uses your device's GPS to display your position on maps, identify geographic features in augmented reality, calculate distances for the rangefinder, monitor geofence boundaries, and provide bearing navigation. All location processing happens entirely on your device. Your GPS coordinates are never transmitted to our servers.
Barometric Pressure Data: MeshWave reads your phone's barometer sensor to provide weather forecasting via the MeshWeather feature. This data is processed and stored locally on your device and is never transmitted externally.
Camera Access: The camera is used for augmented reality geographic identification, taking photos for MeshSnap sharing, and scanning QR codes for Space invites. Photos shared via MeshSnap are transmitted directly to other mesh radios over LoRa radio frequencies — they do not pass through any server or internet connection.
Bluetooth Data: MeshWave connects to Meshtastic-compatible LoRa radios via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This connection is used to send and receive mesh network communications. Bluetooth data stays between your device and your radio.
Purchase Information: If you purchase MeshWave Pro, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not collect, process, or store any payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details.
Locally Stored Preferences: Your app settings, approved nodes list, geofence zones, trail corridors, downloaded maps, and conversation history are stored locally on your device using on-device databases. This data is not transmitted to any server.
Information We DO NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal identification information
- We do not collect or store your messages, voice calls, or photos
- We do not track your location on any server
- We do not use analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, or advertising identifiers
- We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes
- We do not build user profiles or behavioral data
- We do not sell, share, or monetize any user data
2. How Your Data Flows
MeshWave is designed as a local-first, off-grid application. Here is exactly how data moves:
Text messages, voice calls, and photos travel from your phone → via Bluetooth → to your LoRa radio → over radio frequencies → to other LoRa radios → via Bluetooth → to the recipient's phone. At no point does this data touch any internet server or cloud service.
Map tiles are downloaded from standard map tile servers (Apple MapKit, OpenStreetMap) when you have an internet connection. Once downloaded for offline use, maps are stored locally. Map tile servers may log standard web request data (IP address, tile coordinates) according to their own privacy policies.
In-app purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store according to their respective privacy policies.
Emergency Disaster Auto-Unlock zones are checked by the app against a publicly accessible zone list. This check transmits only your general GPS region (not precise coordinates) to determine if an emergency zone is active in your area.
3. Third-Party Services
MeshWave uses the following third-party services:
- Apple MapKit / OpenStreetMap: For map tile rendering and offline map downloads. Subject to Apple's and OpenStreetMap's privacy policies.
- Apple StoreKit / Google Play Billing: For processing in-app purchases. Subject to Apple's and Google's privacy policies.
- JSONBin.io: For checking emergency disaster zone status only. No personal data is transmitted.
MeshWave does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking services.
4. Data Storage and Security
All user data (messages, settings, zones, trails, approved nodes, conversation history) is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store user data.
Mesh communications can optionally be encrypted using AES-128 encryption on private channels, as implemented by the Meshtastic radio firmware. This encryption is applied at the radio hardware level.
5. Children's Privacy
MeshWave does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation or personal information to function. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to remove such information.
6. Data Retention
Since MeshWave does not collect or transmit personal data to any server, there is no server-side data to retain or delete. All data stored on your device can be deleted by uninstalling the App or clearing the App's data in your device settings.
7. Your Rights
Because MeshWave does not collect personal data on any server, traditional data rights requests (access, deletion, portability) are not applicable. All your data is already in your possession on your device.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), California, or any other jurisdiction with data protection laws, please note that MeshWave's local-first architecture means your data never leaves your device (except for radio-to-radio mesh communication that you initiate and map tile downloads).
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
